If you're working in IT, operations or analysis and want to build specialist data skills.
The course combines academic study with practical application, covering the full breadth of data science. You'll develop programming and analytical skills using Python and SQL, explore database design, and gain insight into how businesses manage and analyse data.
Supporting topics include mathematics for computing, data ethics, and legal frameworks for data collection. In the final year, you’ll study machine learning, data visualisation and advanced data management, and complete a major project in artificial intelligence and one in visualisation.
Completion of the first two years offers an optional FdSc exit qualification, which is accredited under the Higher Apprenticeship Framework through Tech Partnership. This is a forward-looking degree designed to give you and your organisation a competitive edge in an increasingly data-driven world.

Course Content
The course is delivered through interactive lectures, tutorials and workshops. There will also be presentations by guest speakers. Learning is practical and informal. You’ll be assessed through a variety of methods such as practical and theoretical assignments, reports, oral presentations, project work, portfolios and team-based assignments.

Key facts
- Students will usually undertake academic study for one day and one evening per week over three years.
- During this time, students continue to work four days per week with their current employer, gaining practical, on-the-job experience.
- Day-release and evening study will be at a partner college for the first two years, then at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï for the final year.
- The first two years of study take place at either Grŵp Llandrillo Menai or Coleg Cambria, depending on location and subject area.
- In the final year, all students complete their studies at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï.
- You will graduate with a full BSc or BEng degree from ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï.
- These programmes are not open to international students; applicants must be living and working in Wales and have the support of their employer.
