The video games industry has grown from a hobbyist bedroom or garage past time in the 80s to a mass market entertainment phenomenon, outgrowing the music and movie industries. It’s a fast-evolving sector, shifting from physical cartridges to CDs to digital download and from consoles and PC games to smart phones to penetrate all demographics across the world.Ìý
Nick Parker has been an influential player along this journey, entering the industry in 1992 at Nintendo for the launch of the SNES, then approached by Sony Europe for the launch of PlayStation in 1995. He will describe his career among the major industry events since then that have driven market growth and describe where gaming is heading.
Nick Parker has been in the video games industry for over thirty years, serving at executive level for Nintendo, Sony PlayStation (VP on European board) and Atari (VP). For the last twenty years, Nick has been running Parker Consulting, the industry’s foremost strategic business consultancy, specialising in business planning and raising capital for games developers and publishers.
The consultancy has advised, among others, Vodafone, BBC, BT, Sony, Jagex, Nintendo, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Activision, BSkyB (Sky TV), UbiSoft, Codemasters, CCP, publishers, developers, VCs/PEs, banks, lawyers, accountants.
